FAQ

Questions people ask.

More in the main FAQ and the help pages.

What does bring your own key mean?

You use an API key from your own account with an AI provider. Valet sends requests straight to that provider; you pay them directly and Valet charges nothing.

Where is my API key stored?

Encrypted in the extension's storage on your device. It is sent only to the provider it belongs to.

Do I need a key at all?

No. You can sign in with a Claude Pro/Max, ChatGPT Plus/Pro or Ollama Cloud plan, or run a model locally.

Which model is cheapest for browsing tasks?

Valet works through tool calls, so a capable model saves retries. Try a fast model from Gemini, Groq or DeepSeek for simple tasks and a recent Claude or GPT model for long ones.
